Quite a number of German pork butchers settled in Keighley in the 19th century; names such as Andrassy, Pfeiffer, Hofmann and Schneider. Speaker Karl-Heinz Wüstner explains why the butchers and their families left their homeland and how they were able to succeed as immigrants in the town and in the wider West Yorkshire.
The talk is to be held in the Local Studies Library, upstairs at Keighley Library on Main Street, on Wednesday 1st October 2025. The event will start at 2.30pm and finish at 4.30pm. All are welcome. There will be a £2 entry cost (for History Society members and non-members), please pay on the door in cash. No need to pre-book.

There is a members-only visit to Keighley Local Studies Library on Saturday 18th October 2025. The focus this time will be on how to research the history of your own home or of a particular building. But people can also come along with their own queries and staff will be on hand to help. There will be a £2 charge to members for this event to cover costs (pay on the day – cash only).
