Vintage M&S adverts on big screen in Bradford

M&S may be a bit of a dirty word in Keighley right now, with the announcement of the closure of the town’s store, but there is an event at the cinema in the National Science and Media Museum in Bradford that might be of interest to people. On Wednesday the 18th of April, as part of the Golden Years Film Festival 2018, there is an event called ‘M&S on the Silver Screen’. The M&S Company Archive (based in Leeds where the company was founded) will be sharing highlights from their archive film collection showing vintage M&S adverts from the 1950s to the 1970s that were made to be shown in cinemas. Copy and paste the link below for more details. (And it’s free to attend!)

Photos of the History Society’s early days

The Keighley and District Local History was formed in 2004 to mark the centenary of the town’s Carnegie Library. Some photographs from the early years, taken by then secretary Barbara Klempka have been added to our digital archive on Flickr. Click on the image below to look through the album.

KDLHS AT KEIGHLEY SHOW 2nd Sept 2017

WE WILL BE THERE RAIN OR SHINE (hopefully shine)

We will be in our brand new large BRIGHT ORANGE gazebo, so we shouldn’t be too difficult to find! So this year we should also be RAINPROOF, your all welcome to come and hide if it does get as bad as last year, you can browse while your sheltering. We will be selling 2018 Calendars featuring Stanley R Boardman’s work. Do come early before they are all gone.

We have better displays, a tombola, thngss just for fun and there may even be costumes involved.

We are using the show to launch our new Logo and as the pre-launch of a project to involve schools and communities in our Local History, particularly from the 1950s onwards, Come along and find out about it, maybe we can help each other.

Thanks to Keighley Town Council for a £1000 grant to help with the purchase of equipment that has enabled us to start this project.
