Look & See – Q9

The other side, odd nos., never reached the same elegant standards of the Cakewalk. While after the widening some elegant 3 storey shops were built at the top, most of these were demolished in the late 1960s due too the building of the Shopping Mall and extension of the Bus Station. This side was interrupted by the entry to Fleece Mills and the tallest mill chimney in Keighley, which was not demolished until 1985. The mill towered over the single storey shops that fronted Cavendish Street. The entry was under the pediment of these shops, now occupied by Evans Cycles. A number of poor quality buildings were demolished to make way for the Retail Park entrance. The early 20c buildings leading down to the Victoria Hotel remain intact.
