February’s members’ meeting will be Graham Mitchell giving his talk ‘Catholic Revival, St. Anne’s and the Amazing Father Russell’ on Wednesday 9th February. Graham examines how the Catholic Faith survived in Keighley and tells how St. Anne’s Church and Presbytery were built with the help of local families. He then looks at the life of Fr. Joseph Russell, who was Parish Priest at St Anne’s for 40 years, and who set up two schools and six other churches around Keighley.
The meeting will be on Zoom and ‘doors open’ at 7pm with the talk starting at 7.30pm. History Society members will receive their invitation to the meeting via email a few days before the event. If you are interested in joining the History Society please get in touch or comment below.
I’m interested in your event “Catholic Revival, St Anne’s and the Amazing Father Russel”. How can I (re-)join the society please?
Hello Colin. Because we aren’t yet meeting face-to-face, membership has to be taken out through our online GenFair account. Here is a link:

Unfortunately I missed the talk and have only just joined the society. Was the talk recorded for members? My grand parents and great grand parents knew Fr Russell and my parents married in st Anne’s church. I believe I own a blackthorn stick that was previously owned by Fr Russelland have a photograph of it too from around 100 years ago. My great grandparents were Michael and Catherine Carroll.
Hello. We don’t tend to record the talks for various reasons. Graham Mitchell has a number of talks ‘up his sleeve’ which he gives on various occasions to different societies around the town. Keep an eye out because I’m sure he will repeat his talk on St Anne’s, and the History Society will try to promote them if we hear of any.
